Debian, also known as Debian GNU/Linux, is a Linux distribution developed by the community-supported Debian Project. It has below an entire family of distributions denoted as Debian-based, the most popular being Ubuntu. Debian has multiple releases depending on the frequency at which different packages & system components are updated. The stable distribution is the official production release and can be considered secure. On the other hand, the testing release works on a rolling-release basis, meaning some packages are up-to-date, but the system still needs to be fully tested, and certain packages could become unstable.
